All classes: First 20 minutes-- we read both the lime green and the pink example essays. Then each student received a copy of the Literary Criticism Paper Checklist. The checklist shows Mrs. Firth's expectations for their papers, and we compared the list to the sample essays. Last 30 minutes of class: Canterbury Tales II video, which includes “The Merchant’s Tale,” “The Pardoner’s Tale,” and “The Franklin’s Tale.” NOTE: The Canterbury Tales Unit Exam Review Sheet is up for the test next Tuesday. All classes: We looked at the high points of Student Example Paper #1 and all students were set free from the chains of the three-prong thesis statement and the five-paragraph essay. We then watched episode one of the BBC Production of The Canterbury Tales, which covered "The Nun's Priest's Tale," "The Knight's Tale," and "The Wife of Bath's Tale." Mrs. Firth encouraged students to look for paper inspiration in both stories we've read and haven't read.
