3: Finished reviewing Lord Byron's biography and the characteristics of the Byronic Hero from yesterday. Brainstormed similar characters and personas that we already knew about who fit the Byronic Hero mold. We will work in the computer lab on Friday, April 17 to create online dating profiles for a Byronic Hero character that you create. I distributed the annotation of Byron's "She Walks in Beauty" poem.

All classes: no vocab this week due to International Day and Senior Luncheon interruptions to regular schedule. We finished reading Keats' "Ode to a Nightingale" and moved onto Lord Byron. I lectured about Byron's biography for the majority of the period, and then introduced the concept of the Byronic Hero. This A&E video biography of Byron is excellent and can stand in for the lecture I gave.
All classes: we took the Romanticism Vocab #3 Quiz. I verbally relayed a bit about the biographical background of the great Romantic poet John Keats, and then we began reading his masterpiece, "Ode to a Nightingale." If you are reading this on your own, I recommend reading the full Shmoop entry about the poem.
All classes - Completed forlorn - plaintive on the Romanticism Vocab #3 sheet. Went over possible entries in the Where's The Romance? charts; people absent yesterday or who did not finish yesterday turned their charts in for a grade. We then watched clips from Kenneth Branagh's 1994 Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, then discussed how and why it veered from the text we read.
1, 2, 6, 7 - Completed pastoral - requiem on the Romanticism Vocab #3 sheet. Worked in small groups with two copies of the Where's The Romance? chart. On the first chart, groups identified elements of the Shelley poem "Ozymandias" that illustrated the conventions of Romanticism. For the second chart, the groups read Chapter 5 of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and again identified conventions of Romanticism in the novel. SPECIAL OLYMPICS PARTICIPANTS: Finish both copies of the chart on your own and turn it in on Friday.

Took the Shelley Bio Quiz over yesterday's lecture, then evaluated Percy Bysshe Shelley's "To a Skylark" and "Ode to the West Wind" for irritating, b-class Romantic qualities. Read "Ozymandias" in the text, then watched several YouTube versions and discussed the connection between the poem and the penultimate episode of Breaking Bad.
